Nigeria Bans Wood and Charcoal Export to Protect Environment

The Nigerian government, through the Ministry of Environment led by Balarab Lawal, has imposed a nationwide ban on the export of wood and related products, revoking all licenses previously issued. This decision, announced during the 18th National Council on Environment meeting in Katsina State, is in line with a presidential executive order to combat illegal logging and deforestation.

The move reflects the government's commitment to safeguarding Nigeria's shrinking forest cover and ensuring sustainable use of natural resources. Additionally, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has undergone restructuring, appointing Mulisiu Olalekan Oseni as its new chairman.
