Federal High Court Updates Pre-Election Directives for 2027

The Federal High Court of Nigeria has announced amendments to its pre-election practice directions in preparation for the 2027 elections. These amendments, approved by Hon.

Justice John Terhemba Tsoho, aim to strengthen the speed and efficiency of resolving pre-election cases across the country. The revised practice directions will take effect on June 26, 2026, as stated in a release issued on Wednesday by Dr.

Catherin Obi Christoph, the Director of Information at the Federal High Court. The amendments were made pursuant to sections 254, 285(9), 10, and 14 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as well as sections 29(5) and 88(2) of the Electoral Act 2026.

The changes are designed to improve the handling of pre-election matters in line with constitutional provisions and the Electoral Act, facilitating timely and equitable determinations of disputes arising from the electoral process and promoting judicial efficiency and adherence to due process.
