Fela Anikulapo Kuti to Receive Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, First African Musician Honored

Fela Anikulapo Kuti, the late Afrobeat pioneer, is set to become the first African musician to receive the prestigious Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award posthumously. The announcement was made by the Record Academy, with Fela being honored for his extraordinary influence on music across generations.

He will be recognized at the 67th Grammy Awards alongside international music icons like Whitney Houston, Paul Simon, Cher, and Chaka Khan. Fela's impact as the architect of Afrobeat and his enduring influence on generations of artists have solidified his place in music history.

The Grammy Hall of Fame previously inducted Fela's 1976 album "Zombie" in 2025.
