Nigerian Government's Mortgage Reforms Help 700 Citizens Become Homeowners in 6 Months

The Nigerian government's Ministry of Finance, in collaboration with private sector entities like ARM Holdco and MREIF, has successfully enabled 700 Nigerians to own homes within six months as part of a mortgage reform initiative. The program aims to address Nigeria's housing crisis by providing affordable long-term mortgages at a low-interest rate of 9.75% per annum repayable over 20 years.

This initiative represents a significant shift in the mortgage market, previously dominated by double-digit interest rates. Various financial institutions across Nigeria, including Abbei Mortgage Bank, Access Bank, FCMB, and others, have participated in this scheme, signaling a positive step towards inclusive growth and wealth creation for citizens.
