Nigerian Government Begins Documentation of Traditional Medicine Practitioners for Sector Strengthening

The Nigerian government, through the Nigerian Natural Medicine Development Agency (NNMDA), has commenced the documentation of traditional medicine practitioners to establish a national database. Prof.

Martin Emej, the Director-General of NNMDA, highlighted the importance of this initiative in standardizing and enhancing the credibility of traditional medicine in Nigeria. The effort aims to address the reliance on traditional medicine by a significant portion of the population, particularly in rural areas.

The project involves digitizing the registration and verification process of traditional medicine practitioners, starting with a pilot project in Iseyin Local Government Area of Oyo State.
