Taiwo Oyedele Leads Review of 2025 Tax Reforms in Nigeria

The Federal Government has begun a review of the implementation of Nigeria’s 2025 tax reform laws, directed by Taiwo Oyedele, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. On September 17, 2026, Oyedele inaugurated the Technical Subcommittee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms in Abuja, tasking it with identifying areas for clarification, adjustment, or further reform within six weeks.

This review follows the operationalization of the new tax laws on January 1, 2026, which include the Nigeria Tax Act 2025, Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025, Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act 2025, and Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Act 2025. Oyedele emphasized the importance of learning from the implementation experience rather than discarding the reforms.

The review will focus on issues such as Value Added Tax thresholds, withholding tax, capital gains treatment, and multiple taxation, aiming for better coordination among revenue agencies and improved digital systems. The government received 134 submissions from stakeholders regarding these reforms.
