Nigeria Considers Retaliation Against South Africa Attacks

The Nigerian government is contemplating retaliatory measures against South Africa in response to persistent attacks on its citizens residing there. Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, disclosed this during a briefing at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

She emphasized that if the situation continues, the government may consider actions requiring the highest level of government involvement, including the National Assembly. Ojukwu expressed disappointment over the treatment of Nigerians in South Africa, countering claims by South African authorities that Nigerians are seeking to repatriate illegal migrants, labeling such allegations as false.

She confirmed that President Bola Tinubu has directed the immediate establishment of a crisis response unit at the Nigerian consulate in Johannesburg to assist affected citizens. The repatriation process for Nigerians is ongoing, with documentation procedures nearing completion, as the number of Nigerians seeking assistance continues to rise.
