Nigerian Government Drops Defamation Charges Against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan

The Federal Government of Nigeria has withdrawn criminal defamation charges filed against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan by the Attorney General, Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi. The notice of discontinuance was filed in the Federal High Court in Abuja, effectively bringing an end to the case.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was accused of making defamatory statements implicating Senator Godswil Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello in an alleged assassination plot. The case is expected to be formally dismissed by Justice Umar Garba.

Akpoti-Uduaghan had pleaded not guilty and was granted bail. The trial is set to resume after the Christmas vacation.
