Nigerian Government Disputes Peter Obi's $1bn Lagos Port Modernization Claim, Emphasizes Nationwide Port Upgrades

The Nigerian Federal Government has countered Peter Obi's assertion regarding a $1bn Lagos port modernization project, highlighting that port upgrades are not solely focused on Lagos but are nationwide. The Ministry of Maritime and Blue Economy, represented by Dr.

Bolaji Akinola and Minister Adegboyega Oyetola, clarified that ongoing efforts include renovating and modernizing ports in Warri, Port Harcourt, Calabar, Onne, and Lagos. Additionally, plans for new deep seaports in states like Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River aim to enhance Nigeria's maritime capacity.

The government's decentralization strategy also involves developing ports beyond Lagos, such as the Onitsha River Port in Anambra. This move aligns with President Bola Tinubu's agenda for inclusive national development.
