FG Launches Online Verification for Civil Servants' Pensions

The Federal Government of Nigeria is intensifying efforts to improve the online verification process for civil servants' pension rights, as announced by the Pension Commission (PenCom). The nationwide online verification and enrollment exercise will commence on February 2, 2026, and conclude on July 31, 2026.

This initiative aims to capture accurate data of eligible workers to support timely pension payments under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CP). The exercise is crucial due to low participation rates among civil servants, despite its importance.

PenCom's new digital platform will facilitate real-time data capture and verification, including biometric checks. The first phase will cover employees expected to retire between January 2027 and December 2029, while the second phase will address those retiring from January 2030 onward.

PenCom emphasizes the need for full compliance from all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure that eligible employees are captured within the timeline, as failure to participate could complicate the process of accessing pension benefits.
