FG's Land Reform to Unlock N300bn in Dormant Assets

The Federal Government of Nigeria is taking steps to unlock N300 billion in dormant land assets across the country through a land administration reform. Dr.

Shuaib Belgore, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, announced this initiative on Monday in Abuja during the Africa Women Housing Construction Conference and Business Expo 2026. The reform includes the implementation of a National Land Title Registration Document Program aimed at digitizing land records and improving land governance, which is expected to strengthen tenure security nationwide.

The initiative is part of a broader effort by the ministry to address housing challenges and enhance land administration and housing finance through public-private partnerships (PPP). Additionally, the government is executing the "Renew Hope Estate City" program, which aims to deliver 50,000 housing units nationwide, with 14 housing project sites currently active across the country, including the major project in Karsana, Abuja, which will provide 3,112 housing units upon completion.
