FG and New Era Foundation Partner on Gender-Based Violence

The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with New Era Foundation to create a safe haven for survivors of gender-based violence. The ceremony was attended by Hon.

Imaan Sulaiman Ibrahim, who described the initiative as transformative and a model for government-private sector collaboration. The MoU aims to establish and manage a patient home that will provide shelter, psychosocial support, healthcare services, legal assistance, and economic empowerment opportunities for survivors.

The initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda and emphasizes the urgency of intervention, especially as Nigeria recorded 2,755 cases of gender-based violence in the first four months of 2026. Dr.

Muyi Aina, Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, noted that gender-based violence is a critical public health concern. The agreement includes a commitment to provide quality healthcare services and support for survivors, reflecting a collaborative effort to address complex social challenges.
