Nigerian Government Launches N5m Youth Credit Card Scheme Amidst Credibility Concerns

The Nigerian government has launched the YouthCR credit card scheme, providing Nigerian youths aged 18-39 with access to affordable loans up to N5 million through the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (Credicorp). The program aims to assist young workers in overcoming financial challenges, building a formal credit history, and avoiding high-interest loans from unregulated lenders.

However, concerns have been raised about the transparency and credibility of the scheme, with some questioning the interest rates and government's seriousness. The scheme comes amidst reports of the rejection of a plea to transfer a convict, former Deputy Senate President Ekweremadu, to Nigeria from the UK.
