Nigeria's Government Invests in Power Grid Stabilization

The Nigerian government, through the Ministry of Power, is planning a fresh investment aimed at stabilizing the national power grid. Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe announced this initiative, emphasizing the need for a structural overhaul of the transmission network rather than relying on short-term fixes.

He stated that grid stability is essential for achieving gains in power generation and distribution. A Technical Working Committee on Grid Stabilization has been formed to tackle transmission bottlenecks, aging infrastructure, and frequent system collapses.

This Committee will collaborate with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) to identify priority intervention points. Tegbe acknowledged the existing trust deficit among Nigerians regarding power sector promises and committed to being held accountable for clear milestones.

The Ministry plans to provide regular updates on the grid stabilization program as part of a broader communication strategy to restore public confidence.
