Nigerian Government Raises Alarm Over Terrorism Funding Through Kidnapping

The Nigerian government has expressed alarm over the rising connection between kidnapping and terrorist financing in the country. Maj.

Gen. Adamu Laka revealed during a workshop in Abuja that kidnapping has evolved from a random criminal act to a significant revenue source for violent groups.

This trend poses a serious security threat as ransom payments empower these networks to purchase arms, strengthen logistics, and sustain coordinated attacks across various regions. To combat this, Nigeria and the United Kingdom have jointly established a multi-agency Kidnap Fusion Cell under the NCTC to enhance intelligence sharing, operational coordination, and rapid response capabilities.
