FG Reaffirms Commitment to Local Pharmaceutical Manufacturing

On Thursday, the Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziak Adekunle Salako, reaffirmed its commitment to promoting local pharmaceutical manufacturing.

This announcement was made during the grand opening of Sam Pharmaceutical Ltd's plant located on Ilo Awela Road in Ota, Ogun State. Dr.

Salako emphasized the importance of this initiative, particularly in the context of enhancing healthcare access and achieving medical sovereignty. He highlighted that the government is implementing policies to mobilize investments, improve regulatory frameworks, and provide tax relief to support local research and manufacturing.

The Minister also mentioned the Presidential Executive Order aimed at revitalizing the local manufacturing sector, which is part of a broader strategy to unlock the healthcare value chain. Furthermore, he noted the significance of the Mav Project, which is set to launch in October 2025 with an investment of 18 million euros, aimed at strengthening local manufacturing capabilities, including vaccines and medical technologies.
