FG Registers 15 Million Households for Cash Transfers

The Federal Government of Nigeria has registered 15 million vulnerable households as part of its initiative to provide cash transfers aimed at cushioning the economic impact on the poorest Nigerians. The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction disclosed this information during an interview on Arise Television on Friday.

The broader national social register contains data on approximately 17.9 million vulnerable households, which equates to roughly 70 million individuals. However, not all are eligible for direct financial assistance.

The Minister emphasized that inclusion in the national social register does not automatically qualify households for cash support; eligibility is determined by specific program criteria. The registration process is community-led and aims to identify the poorest and most vulnerable Nigerians.

The government’s long-term goal is to ensure comprehensive national coverage of the social register to improve poverty reduction plans and reaffirm its commitment to expanding the database to ensure targeted support reaches citizens affected by economic hardship.
