FG Retains King’s College Ownership; KCOBA to Manage Operations

The Federal Government of Nigeria has confirmed that it retains ownership of King’s College, Lagos, despite the concession of the institution to the King’s College Old Boys’ Association (KCOBA) for rehabilitation and operations under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP). Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, stated that the arrangement does not equate to the sale or privatization of the 117-year-old institution.

The government maintains legal title and will continue its oversight responsibilities. KCOBA is tasked with mobilizing funding and management for the school's modernization and rehabilitation, which includes improvements to academic and administrative buildings, hostels, and sports facilities.

The agreement ensures that admissions will follow existing Federal Unity College policies and does not automatically increase school fees. A Staff Transition and Protection Framework will be implemented to safeguard staff welfare and ensure continuity of services during the transition.
