Nigeria Launches Lenacapavir for HIV Prevention Efforts

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially rolled out Lenacapavir, a long-acting injectable drug aimed at preventing HIV infections. This announcement was made by Dr.

Iziak Adekunle Salako, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, during a press briefing on Tuesday in Abuja. The initiative is part of a broader commitment by the government to eradicate HIV/AIDS as a public health threat by the year 2030.

Dr. Salako highlighted that the introduction of this drug is expected to accelerate the reduction of new HIV infections in Nigeria and strengthen the country's efforts in HIV prevention, treatment, and care.

The rollout will begin on a controlled scale to ensure proper monitoring of the drug's effects and potential side effects, with plans for a nationwide expansion as part of a multi-sector approach to public health.
