Nigerian Government Spends ₦458.75 Billion on Power Subsidies as Discos Improve Revenue Collections

The Nigerian government has allocated ₦458.75 billion for power subsidies in the third quarter of 2025, supporting the power sector despite challenges. Electricity distribution companies have shown improved revenue collections, with a rise in tariff collection efficiency to 80.7%.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) reported that despite frozen end-user tariffs since July 2024, revenue recovery has gradually improved. The report also highlighted operational gains in the sector, with a total energy offtake value of ₦854.53 billion during the period.
