Nigeria, UN Launch Workshop for Humanitarian Transition

The Federal Government of Nigeria, alongside the United Nations and various partners, commenced a two-day humanitarian transition workshop in Abuja, aimed at fostering national ownership of humanitarian responses. The workshop, opened by Dr.

Bernard M. Doro, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, addresses the need for a shift towards a government-led humanitarian coordination system due to declining international humanitarian financing.

Dr. Doro emphasized the importance of mobilizing domestic resources and increasing budgetary commitments from federal and state levels, as well as engaging the private sector and diaspora.

Moham Malik Fall, UN Resident Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, reaffirmed the UN's commitment to supporting Nigeria's transition. The workshop aims to produce a joint action plan to guide Nigeria's humanitarian transition and strengthen coordination structures for the 2027 humanitarian needs response plan within the framework of the Office of Humanitarian Partnerships and Response (OHPR).
