Nigeria Unlocks $552M for Basic Education Reform

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the unlocking of $552 million from the Hope-Edu Fund, aimed at accelerating and strengthening basic education reform nationwide. This initiative is designed to improve foundational learning, expand access to quality basic education, and reinforce the educational system across participating states.

The announcement was made by Folashad Boriowo, the Minister of Education, and Dr. Tunji Alausa, who described this milestone as a defining moment in Nigeria's educational transformation journey.

The program aligns with the broader educational sector reforms and is supported by the World Bank and the Global Partnership for Education. The funding represents the fastest activation of educational financing in Nigeria's history, reflecting a clear vision and commitment to delivering measurable results for Nigerian children.

The allocation for the education sector for the 2026 fiscal year is set at N3.520 trillion, the highest to date, complementing increased sub-national funding to address local priorities and implement targeted interventions.
