Federal Government Pushes for Urban Water Project Completion

The Federal Government of Nigeria has called on participating states to expedite the completion of urban water projects under the National Urban Water Sector Reform Project, which has been extended to 2028. This announcement was made by the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof Joseph Utsev, during the opening of the 2nd Semester 2026 National Urban Water Sector Reform Project Coordination and Review Workshop in Jos, Plateau State.

Represented by the project’s National Coordinator, Mr Kasim Nafiu, Utsev praised the French Development Agency for the extension, which allows states additional time to complete ongoing rehabilitation works and tackle implementation challenges. The workshop, themed ‘Improving Water Supply and Sanitation Service Delivery,’ aims to facilitate an empirical review of project implementation among states.

Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang, represented by his Deputy, Mrs Josephine Piyo, highlighted his administration's commitment to water security, announcing a counterpart funding of N2.6 billion for the project and detailing various interventions to enhance water supply across the state.
