FG Warns Against Contracts Without Secured Funding

During the inauguration of the Host Procurement Evolution in Abuja, Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, Director General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), disclosed that the Federal Government of Nigeria has issued a warning against awarding contracts without confirmed funding.

This directive comes from President Bola Tinubu, who has approved measures to raise resources necessary to settle outstanding obligations to contractors. Adedokun emphasized the importance of timely payments and the need for a more efficient procurement system.

The President has directed that no further awards should be made without available resources. The BPP is tasked with implementing 23 procurement reforms aimed at improving transparency and efficiency in public spending.

These reforms are designed to ensure that Nigerians benefit directly from improved infrastructure, healthcare, and education. Sen.

George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, noted that ongoing reforms include proposed amendments to the Public Procurement Act of 2007 and initiatives to strengthen local industries.
