FIDA Nigeria Advocates for Community Action Against GBV

FIDA Nigeria, represented by Mrs. Eliana Martins, and the Chairperson of FIDA, Ekiti State Chapter, Mrs. Ayobami Olowoyo-Richards, emphasized the need for stronger community action against gender-based violence (GBV) during a two-day dialogue in Ado-Ekiti. Supported by the Ford Foundation, the event gathered traditional rulers, security agencies, lawyers, and members of the Gender-Based Violence Management Committee.
The dialogue aimed to review the implementation of community by-laws addressing GBV and included training for community volunteers, particularly youth leaders, as first responders. Fikih Obaro, Senior Programme Manager on the Ford Foundation project, highlighted the need to address human trafficking within Nigeria, not just cases involving Nigerians abroad.
Mr. Samson Oladimeji from NAPTIP noted the link between GBV and human trafficking, urging families to foster unity and love. Oba Gabriel Adebomi Babalola, the Alararomi of Araromi-Ekiti, called for direct sensitization efforts in local communities to raise awareness about GBV.
