Mbappé Becomes France's All-Time Leading Scorer

In the opening match of the FIFA 2026 World Cup, Kylian Mbappé scored two goals, leading France to a 3-1 victory over Senegal. The match served as a revenge for France after their shocking defeat to Senegal in the 2002 World Cup.

Mbappé, who is 27 years old, netted the first goal with a low finish from a pass by Michael Olis, after losing his marker. Adrien Rabiot assisted Bradlei Barcola, who doubled the lead for France eight minutes later.

Senegal's Ibrahim Mbay managed to score, giving his team hope, but Mbappé sealed the win with a long-range strike. With this performance, Mbappé became France's all-time leading scorer in World Cup history, surpassing Olivier Giroud with 16 goals, while he is now second on the all-time list behind Miroslav Klose.
