FIFA Launches Sign Language Broadcasts for 2026 World Cup

FIFA announced that it will introduce sign language broadcasts for all matches of the 2026 World Cup, marking the first time such an initiative will be implemented in a tournament. This effort aims to improve accessibility for fans with disabilities, allowing them to fully enjoy the tournament whether they are inside the stadium or watching remotely.

The organization plans to provide sign language interpretation that captures the full atmosphere of the game, going beyond basic translation to include commentary on match action, emotions, and crowd reactions. The broadcasts will feature American Sign Language (ASL) in the United States and Canadian matches, while Mexican Sign Language (LSM) will be used during knockout stages involving Spanish-speaking teams.
