FIFA is reportedly considering expanding the 2030 World Cup following the success of the first 48-nation tournament scheduled for 2026 in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The current format allows for 32 nations, but discussions are ongoing to potentially include more teams in the future.

The allocation of slots for different regions has been outlined, with South America set to have six automatic slots, including three for the host nations. The idea of a 64-team World Cup was presented by the Uruguayan Association President, Ignacio Alonso, at a recent meeting attended by top football officials.
