Finland Sets New Rules for Permanent Residence Applications

Finland's immigration authority has announced two specific categories of foreign nationals who are automatically disqualified from obtaining a permanent residence permit. The first category pertains to any foreign national who is not physically present in Finland at the time of their application.

The second category targets individuals who fail to meet the conditions required for a continuous residence permit. This means that applicants must already hold or be eligible for a continuous residence permit to be considered for permanent residency.

The authority emphasizes that being present in Finland is a strict requirement, and not meeting the terms of a continuous residence permit will result in the rejection of the application. Foreign nationals intending to apply for permanent residency are advised to ensure they meet both conditions before submitting their applications, as falling into either category will lead to denial.
