FIRS Holds Inaugural Research Day to Drive Data-Driven Tax Reforms in Nigeria

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) recently held its inaugural Research Day to drive data-driven tax reforms in Nigeria. The event, led by FIRS Executive Chairman Zacch Adedeji, aimed to enhance Nigeria's tax system and economic governance through research initiatives.

Adedeji stressed the importance of credible data and rigorous analysis in shaping policies for the country's complex economy. The FIRS unveiled a Research Policy Document to establish ethical standards for research within the agency, along with the Tax Revenue Statistical Bulletin providing tax data trends from 1970 to 2022.

The event also saw the launch of the FIRS Journal of Tax Studies (FJTS) and a new digital platform to expand accessibility to research. Director of Research and Statistics Halima Shehu emphasized the significance of research and reliable data in driving innovation and accountability in tax administration.

The event was described as a defining moment in building a smarter and more accountable tax system in Nigeria.
