Ground Handlers to Withdraw Services Over N9bn Debt

Ground handling companies in Nigeria, including Skyway Aviation Handling Company Nigeria, SAHCO PLC, Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO PLC), and Swissport, have announced plans to withdraw their services starting May 1, 2026, due to outstanding debts owed by airlines amounting to N9 billion. A letter dated April 30, 2026, addressed to the Airline Operators of Nigeria Association, expressed frustration over the lack of communication and action from the airlines regarding their debts.

The letter warned that if the airlines do not settle their obligations within three days, the ground handlers will proceed with service withdrawal. Although the ultimatum was initially set to begin on May 1, the group has deferred the timeline to maintain industry harmony, with the notice period running until May 4, 2026.

The ground handlers indicated their willingness to engage in dialogue to resolve the matter amicably and avoid disruption to aviation operations.
