Nigeria's Food Inflation Drops to 16.87% in September on Maize and Grains Decline

In September 2025, Nigeria experienced a significant drop in food inflation to 16.87%, attributed to a decrease in maize and grains prices. The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) released data showing a 1.57% contraction in food inflation month-on-month.

This decline was driven by the ongoing harvest season across various food commodities. States like Ekiti, Rivers, and Nasarawa recorded the highest food inflation rates.

Overall, the headline inflation also decreased to 18.02% in September.
