DSS Seeks to Foreclose Sowore's Defense in Court Case

On Monday, the Department of State Services (DSS) urged the Federal High Court in Abuja to foreclose the defense of Omoyele Sowore, an online publisher and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), claiming he is frustrating his trial. The DSS is prosecuting Sowore for alleged criminal defamation, cyberstalking, and incitement related to social media posts where he referred to President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal.” During the proceedings, Sowore's lawyer, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, SAN, requested an adjournment, stating that he had just learned that a DSS witness was present to testify.

He mentioned that he filed an application on July 22, 2026, for the judge to attest to certain documents needed for the witness but only discovered minutes before the hearing that the request had been granted. The DSS counsel, Akinloku Kehinde, SAN, opposed this delay, arguing it was a tactic to prolong the trial, noting that all parties had previously agreed on the witness's appearance.
