Former FIBA Africa COO Yira Yacouba Passes Away

Yira Yacouba, the former Chief Operating Officer of FIBA Africa, died on Sunday afternoon while receiving treatment at a clinic. The announcement of his passing was made by Sam Ahmedu, the President of FIBA Africa Zone 3, who conveyed his deep sorrow and respect for Yacouba.

Ahmedu described this moment as painful for the basketball community across the continent. Yacouba, who hailed from Côte d'Ivoire, played a significant role in the growth and administration of basketball in Africa.

Beyond his administrative duties, he was deeply involved at the club level, being a part-owner of the CSA women's basketball club in Abidjan, contributing to the development of women's basketball in his home country. FIBA Africa has already reached out to Yacouba's family regarding burial arrangements, and further communications will follow.

Ahmedu stated that Yacouba will be remembered for his passion for basketball administration, which helped strengthen the sport's structure across Africa.
