Four Nigerian Women Boxers in WBC Top 10 Rankings

Four Nigerian women boxers have achieved recognition in the World Boxing Council (WBC) top 10 rankings, underscoring the rising prominence of Nigerian women in professional boxing. Elizabeth Oshoba holds the fourth position in the featherweight division with an unblemished professional record of 10 wins, including six knockouts.

She began her career at Smart Box Gym in Ilogbo, Ogun State, and made history as the first Nigerian woman to win a world boxing title by defeating Michela Braga in Copenhagen on January 2024, claiming the WBC Silver Featherweight title. Oshoba extended her perfect record on April 5, 2024, with a third-round stoppage of Chelsei Arnel.

Toyin Adejumola ranks 10th in the middleweight division with eight wins, six by knockout, and remains unbeaten. Celina Agwu is ranked fifth in the heavyweight division, while Bolatito Oluwol ranks ninth.

The presence of these athletes in the WBC rankings reflects sustained investment in grassroots development of female athletes in Nigeria.
