Peter Obi Consults Goodluck Jonathan Ahead of 2027 Elections

On Monday, Peter Obi, a prominent figure in the 2027 presidential race and former governor of Anambra State, met with former President Goodluck Jonathan at Jonathan's residence in Maitama, Abuja. The meeting lasted for two hours and included notable leaders from the South East, such as former Enugu State Governor Okwesilieze Nwodo and former Imo State Governor Achike Udenwa.

The purpose of the meeting was to consult Jonathan for guidance rather than to seek an endorsement. Obi emphasized the need for discussions on national issues and the importance of credible elections, expressing concerns about the current state of democracy in Nigeria.

Jonathan reiterated the necessity of strengthening democratic values and highlighted the significance of free and fair elections. Despite growing speculation about potential alliances ahead of the elections, Obi clarified that no endorsement discussions took place during the visit.

This meeting is part of Obi's broader consultations with former Nigerian leaders, including Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Babangida, to build momentum for the upcoming elections.
