Imo Police Locate NYSC Kidnappers' Hideout in Forest

Suspected kidnappers believed to be holding National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members and other passengers have been traced to a forest camp following an attack on two buses along the Owerri-Onitsha Expressway on October 1, 2026. The location was identified through drone surveillance and intelligence operations, as stated by Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso.
Security personnel have not yet entered the area due to the suspected presence of improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Bosso indicated that operatives had followed the suspects into the bush but could not proceed further due to safety concerns.
Preparations are underway to approach the location with specialized equipment, including bulldozers and armored personnel carriers, to facilitate the rescue of the victims. The attack resulted in the abduction of several passengers, with 10 individuals rescued at the scene.
The Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, confirmed that tactical units are actively pursuing the suspects.
