Donald Duke Calls Fuel Subsidy Nigeria's Biggest Scam

Donald Duke, the former governor of Cross River State and the current presidential candidate for the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), has labeled fuel subsidy in Nigeria as the "biggest scam." In a recent interview, Duke asserted that Nigeria's crude oil resources could support much lower domestic fuel prices if managed effectively. He stated that petrol could be sold at approximately ₦200 per litre instead of the current prices exceeding ₦1,000.

Duke emphasized Nigeria's status as an energy-rich country that has not successfully converted its resources into affordable energy for its citizens. He criticized the ongoing flaring of natural gas, noting that Nigeria flares two billion cubic feet of gas daily, equivalent to 20 million litres of diesel.

Duke rejected the notion that domestic fuel prices should align with international prices, arguing that countries should utilize their natural resources to enhance the welfare of their citizens.
