123 Women Candidates for Nigeria's 2027 Senate Race

In the upcoming 2027 senatorial race in Nigeria, a total of 1,303 candidates will compete for 109 seats in the Senate, with women comprising only 123 of these aspirants, highlighting a significant gender gap. The female candidates are affiliated with various political parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Congress (APC), and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Noteworthy candidates include serving senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from Kogi Central, who is seeking re-election on the PDP platform, and Ireti Kingibe, the current senator from the Federal Capital Territory, contesting on the ADC ticket. Idiat Oluranti Adebule, the former Deputy Governor of Lagos, is the APC candidate for the Lagos West senatorial seat.

Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, is contesting in Ogun State on the PDP platform, while former senator Nkechi Nwaogu is vying for the Abia Central seat under the NDC. The elections will shape the composition of the next Senate, part of the 10th assembly.
