NEMA Identifies 34 Flood-Risk LGAs in Lagos and Ogun

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has issued a fresh flood alert, identifying 15 local government areas in Lagos State and 19 in Ogun State as moderate flood-risk zones during the ongoing rainy season. The agency has urged residents in these areas to take immediate preventive actions to mitigate the impacts of flooding, which has become a recurring challenge in Nigeria during the peak rainy season.

NEMA's notice, posted on its official channels on Tuesday, includes a list of the identified local government areas. The agency emphasized the importance of early preparation to reduce the devastating effects of flooding and encouraged residents to stay informed through official channels.

Additionally, NEMA warned against residing in riverine areas without adequate preparation and advised residents to clear drains and move away from riverine areas. The alert follows meteorological forecasts predicting increased rainfall intensity across the southern part of the country, raising concerns about potential flooding in low-lying and poorly drained urban and semi-urban communities.
