President Bola Tinubu has granted clemency to 175 convicts, including well-known figures like Maryam Sanda, Ken Saro Wiwa, Major General Mamman Vatsa, and Sir Herbert Macaulai. The pardons, recommended by the Presidential Advisory Committee on Prerogative of Mercy, include reducing sentences for 65 inmates and commuting the sentences of seven death row inmates to life imprisonment.

The decision, explained by the Attorney General, aims to correct historical injustices, promote rehabilitation, and support the nation's justice system reform efforts. The move signifies a gesture towards national healing and reconciliation.
