Nigerian Boxer's Body Arrives in Lagos from Ghana, Wife Breaks Down in Tears

Nigerian boxer Gabriel Olanrewaju's body was repatriated from Ghana to Lagos after he collapsed and died during a bout against Ghanaian fighter Jon Mbanugu. His wife, Adebusola Olanrewaju, and family members were visibly emotional upon the arrival of his body at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

Investigations revealed Olanrewaju had a pre-existing cardiovascular condition. Ghanaian authorities set up a committee to investigate his death.

Representatives from Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBOFC) and Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) were present to receive his body. Dr.

Rafiu Ladipo, the NBBOFC president, accepted condolences from the Ghanaian delegation. Olanrewaju's burial was scheduled for the following day.

The tragic incident highlighted the risks athletes face due to underlying health conditions.
