Gbajabiamila Prepares National Policing Bill for Assembly
Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President and Chairman of the Group, stated that the National Policing Bill is approximately 90% ready for transmission to the National Assembly, with final adjustments expected within a week. He made this announcement on Thursday after a steering committee meeting at the State House in Abuja.
Gbajabiamila described the bill as the most consequential of the administration, highlighting that it has undergone extensive deliberations since August 3. He acknowledged that some governors have raised observations regarding the bill.
Furthermore, he addressed concerns about the slow passage of the Sixth Constitution Alteration Bill (State Police) by states, noting that only about six out of 36 states and the FCT have approved the amendment. Gbajabiamila expressed confidence in a national consensus on the need for these amendments.
Participants in the meeting included governors from Kwara, Ogun, and Kaduna states, the Inspector General of Police, and representatives from the Federal Ministry of Justice.
