Nigerian Woman Jailed for Forged Passport in Ghana

Franca Wilson, a 41-year-old Nigerian citizen from River State, was sentenced to six months in prison with hard labor by the Adabraka District Court in Accra on May 12, 2026. She pleaded guilty to three counts related to immigration fraud after attempting to obtain a Ghanaian passport using a forged birth certificate that falsely claimed she was born in Somanya, Ghana.

Wilson was arrested on April 24, 2026, when officials at the passport application center noticed inconsistencies during the screening process. The Ghana Immigration Service confirmed her conviction, stating that she was subsequently referred to the National Enforcement Department for further investigation, which revealed her true nationality.

This case follows a pattern of similar offenses, as two other Nigerians were sentenced to 12 months in prison in December 2025 for attempting to acquire a Ghanaian identity card through fraudulent means.
