Galadima Urges Voters to Defend Votes with Kerosene

Buba Galadima, a prominent figure in the New Nigeria Peoples Party, made a controversial statement urging Nigerian voters to go to polling units armed with bottles of kerosene to defend their votes in the upcoming 2027 general elections. His remarks were made during a stakeholders' meeting organized by the Obi Kwankwaso Movement in Abuja.

Galadima emphasized the need for citizens to safeguard their votes against what he described as fascist threats to democracy, asserting that the struggle for democratic change would require sacrifice and strategic action. He accused the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), of attempting to stifle opposition parties and expressed confidence that coalitions among opposition groups could defeat the APC in the elections.

Additionally, he raised concerns about the safety of opposition figures and warned of potential plots to frustrate their legal efforts, particularly referencing challenges faced by the African Democratic Congress in fielding candidates within constitutional timelines.
