FCSC Commissioner Calls for Dismantling Godfatherism in Nigerian Politics

Sunda Idahagbon, a Commissioner of the Federal Civil Service Commission, emphasized the need to dismantle godfatherism in Nigerian politics during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria. He described godfatherism as a Nigerian invention that poses a threat to genuine democracy and development.

Idahagbon, who represents Edo, Ekiti, and Ondo states in the Commission, highlighted the importance of allowing a democratic space free from the stranglehold of influential individuals. He argued that the role of influential political figures should not override the democratic process, allowing for fair competition and the emergence of competent candidates without interference from political heavyweights.

Idahagbon stressed the need for governors and even the president to leave a positive legacy when they exit office. He called for promoting internal democracy within political parties and ensuring that electoral stakeholders have a say in the political process.
