Benue Governor Alia Links Commissioners' Retention to Performance, Addresses Fertilizer Contract Controversy

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has tied the retention of commissioners in the newly reconstituted cabinet to their performance. At the inaugural meeting of the State Executive Council in Makurdi, the governor emphasized the importance of performance-based decisions.

The council discussed issues such as a fertilizer contract controversy where a contractor failed to deliver inputs after being paid. The council resolved to ensure genuine contractors are paid promptly for satisfactory work and individuals involved in fraudulent activities are held accountable.

Governor Alia directed commissioners to engage with their constituencies actively and provide feedback to address citizen needs. He stressed that portfolios may be rotated or withdrawn based on performance.

The governor reaffirmed his commitment to supporting joint security operations and urged proactive engagement with citizens.
