Governor Diri Dissolves Ogboinbiri Chiefs’ Council Amid Violence

Governor Diri of Bayelsa State has taken decisive action by removing the monarch and dissolving the Chiefs’ council in Ogboinbiri due to a violent communal clash that occurred on Tuesday, leading to fatalities. The governor's spokesperson, Mr.

Daniel Alabrah, announced the dissolution on Friday, following the unrest that prompted the state government to impose a dusk-to-dawn curfew in the community. Deputy Governor Dr.

Peter Akp has been tasked with overseeing the establishment of an interim committee led by Chief Thompson Amul to manage Ogboinbiri's affairs until peace is restored. Governor Diri emphasized the need for security and justice, directing the police to apprehend those involved in the violence.

He also noted that the community has been in conflict for two to three years, despite various attempts at resolution. The governor expressed concern over the impact of the violence on the oil-producing community, highlighting the disparity in benefits received from oil companies compared to the community's needs.
