Bauchi Governor Suspends Business ID Card Issuance

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has approved an immediate suspension of the issuance of unified business identification cards across the state. This decision was announced in a statement by Babayo Liman, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Internal Security, made available to journalists in Bauchi on Friday.

The suspension follows reports that individuals were allegedly producing fake identification cards to extort money from traders and business owners, charging them N3,000 under false claims of acting on behalf of the state government. The unified business identification card was originally introduced to strengthen internal security and improve the identification of business operations in Bauchi State.

However, investigations revealed fraudulent activities, prompting the governor to act. Liman urged the public to report anyone involved in extortion and warned that such individuals would be arrested and prosecuted.
