GONET Condemns Rising Child Abduction Cases in Nigeria

The GONET civil society organization, represented by Chairman Ibrahim Yusuf and Secretary Dr. Ben Maina, issued a statement condemning the increasing cases of child abduction and violence against children across Nigeria.

They characterized this trend as a serious threat to the safety and future of the nation's children, highlighting that the abduction of children constitutes a gross violation of human rights and undermines efforts to provide a safe environment for young people. GONET urged security agencies to intensify their efforts to prevent such crimes, rescue victims, and ensure that perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.

The organization also called on parents, guardians, school leaders, religious institutions, and the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the relevant authorities. Furthermore, GONET appealed to the government to strengthen child protection systems and address the underlying causes of insecurity.

They expressed solidarity with families affected by child abduction and reaffirmed their commitment to advocating for the welfare and rights of every child in Nigeria.
